Starry Skies Tennessee

Preserving, protecting and restoring our natural night sky

Natural night skies are endagered in Tennessee. We are the Tennessee Chapter of Dark Sky International, working to preserve our remaining naturally dark places as well as to control light pollution to give everyone a view of the stars.

Cities in Tennessee have sprawled outward, erasing the starry sky with wasted upward light. What do the colors mean? A natural sky on this map would be dark grey. Pickett State Park can be seen in blue along the eastern top. Zoom in to find your location!

By using lighting that is directed down to needed places, we can all help limit brightening our night skies. Take the Home Lighting Assessment to see how to be night friendly

Dark Sky Advocates are local Dark Sky members who have information to share about how and why we need to work to make our skies starry again.
